Patients whose vision is compromised due to the thinning of the cornea may be advised to get a cornea transplant, also known as penetrating keratoplasty. This is a surgical procedure done to replace a patient’s damaged cornea with that of a donor in order to restore the portion of the eye where light enters and attributes to clearer vision. It can also be used to treat a number of other conditions relating to the cornea, including:
- Fuchs’ dystrophy
- Swollen corneas
- Cornea scars
- Keratoconus
- Thinned or torn corneas
